HIDE AND SEEK

Do you remember playing "hide and seek" as a child? Growing up this is a childhood favorite for most. One kid is usually "It". While "It" hid their eyes and counted the rest of the players ran to find the best spot to hide. Then "It" would try to find everyone before they made it back to the safety of "home base", which was usually the biggest tree in the yard.

I remember everyone always wanting to hide; no one ever wanted to be "It" first. I was always better at hiding than I was seeking. Most of us are the same. The human race in general is better at hiding than seeking. Since the beginning of time man has been hiding from their problems rather than facing them. Sometimes it's easier to stay in the solitude of a hiding place than fight your way back to the safety of "home base". Adam and Eve immediately ran to hide as soon as there were in trouble. They covered themselves from each other with fig leaves and tried to hide their disobedience from God.

God doesn't want us to hide when we find ourselves in trouble. He pursued Adam and eve when they were in trouble and today He does the same for us. He isn't a God that will reject us because of our failures or even sin. He seeks to find us so that we can come out of our sinful, isolated places and come to the safety of "home base".

Most of us hide for fear that we will be hurt, severely punished or rejected. Sometimes the most painful part of having a broken heart mended or spiritual emptiness filled is to stop hiding. The enemy would love to keep you isolated when you are in need. We must learn to do the opposite no matter how painful it may initially seem. Run to God when you are in trouble. When we learn to be seekers instead of hiders we can find God so we can stay out of trouble. The grace of God can keep you. When we seek God, His presence and Spirit keep us from many of the mistakes that seem to so easily beset us.

Jeremiah 29:13

"And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all you heart."
